Melissa and Eric met through a mutual friend a few years ago and even went on a date, but the timing wasn’t quite right until later on when Melissa wanted to renovate her porch and contacted Eric (who sells lumber and building supplies) to help her get everything she needed for the project. Melissa was impressed how helpful Eric was and when he ended up asking her out on a second first date, she agreed.

Needless to say that second time is a charm and now they love working on house projects together as well as traveling/adventuring! The Monday following their wedding, they were on a plane to Anchorage, Alaska where they would rent a vehicle and drive to different locations to stay in remote Air BNB’s. Talk about incredible!! The qualities they love most about eachother is that they’re both very thoughtful. In Melissa’s words, “He is always so kind and considerate towards me, a true
gentleman; one of the good ones.”

How did he/she propose? They went out for dinner and came home afterwards. It was halloween night. She had her pajamas on and they were slow dancing in the living room. He went in the other room, got the ring out of his coat, and came back and said he couldn’t wait any longer and just had to ask her to marry him.

They planned a sweet wedding in the tall pines in Northern Wisconsin. They kept their wedding party small and intimate with one groomsmen and one bridesmaid, and their guests came ready to party and enjoy as the sweet summer air settled into the night.

All around such a sweet day for this sweet couple! Enjoy their highlights!

One year ago today we witnessed Aubree & Elliot say “I do” in these woods! It’s so crazy how fast time flies, it feels just yesterday we were back at this magical venue Burlap and Bells, driving past the the 1,000 paper cranes adorning the pine tree grove where they’d soon say “I do”, Aubree getting zipped into her flowy Rue de Seine gown, and the groomsmen arriving in their forest green attire. Before the ceremony, Aubree & Elliot had the sweetest first look with one another in the vine chapel tucked away, sharing their letters they had written to one another. They were completely in this moment, unafraid to let the emotions of the day be felt. My favorite moment of their day. After a sweet ceremony in the pines, they planned for such a fun evening for their guests – including a caricature artist, an “Aubree & Elliot” themed coloring book for the kids, cornhole and dinner served from an airstream “food truck”!

And I can’t not mention how they met “in studio” while studying architecture at UW Milwaukee (in studio = where architecture students spend 100% of their time!) Aubree was celebrating her 21’st bday in studio which was the most perfect time for her and Elliot to finally connect – they realized they shared the same birthday! The next several months Elliot pursued Aubree, and Aubree came to realize how committed this guy **really was!!** and also how much he started to mean to her. They really understood the meaning of love when Elliot moved to Madison and Aubree moved to NYC. Missing that day-to-day connection, they both decided to drop their individual dreams and create a new one together, living the romantic city life in Seattle. Close to the many things they love to do and always having something new to explore whether it be restaurants, coffee shops, markets, or the mountains.

Congrats Aubree & Elliot on ONE YEAR of marriage! Here are some favorites from their wedding day! <33

Sara & Adam are the kind of couple wedding photographers dream of working with (we knew so immediately during our engagement session with them!). They are easy going, down-to-earth, laid back, and so much fun! And although the cameras were rolling they truly lived in each moment, as their true selves, and allowing us to capture the day is it genuinely unfolded. Their personalities shine so brightly as individuals, but then pair them together and they shine even **brighter**! They have the best belly laughs and great taste in music and love of adventure (we got some AWESOME recommendations from them while taking our trip to Glacier National Park). Sara & Adam planned this dusty blue wedding in the woods to perfection! Adding in the raw natural magic of their ceremony location in the pines, great company and yard games, and beautiful florals by The Flower Gallery, and this is one wedding we will always remember! Congrats on one year of marriage Sara & Adam, and for your little to come! We love you guys!

I always get so excited to return to Burlap and Bells, it’s where my career started and although we have shot here several times now, every wedding has been so different from the rest. It’s a perfect blank slate venue for the outdoorsy couple looking for something a little bit more intimate and a little more WOW. The ceremony location tucked away in the pines? Magic! When getting to know Caitlin & Robert throughout the year, their story and their vision, I knew it was going to be another epic one for the books. Caitlin and Robert met on the first day of high school where they work. and Robert was immediately smitten by the new girl Caitlin. They had about four months of what Caitlin likes to call “noticing, *cough cough staring*” and awkward attempts at starting conversation. They didn’t work directly together so she thought it was odd when he volunteered to take a case with her. But ever since, they have been inseparable. They got engaged in Mexico and after an adventurous day of canoeing, ziplining, repelling into a cave, and then hiking to the top of a Mayan temple, it was at the top of the pyramid that Robert got down on one knee & she said yess!

They got married in the pine tree grove, Bob’s children serving as best man and maid of honor. And afterwards guests took to the pavilion were they were treated to a Mexican buffet by Sweet Clarisse Catering (not gonna lie, I get super excited when my couples choose them & I get to eat more of their food :P), copper mule mug favors, cupcakes from Food Network Award Winning Bakery – Meringue Bakery, and shaved ice truck for dessert. And let’s not forget the kiddos! The little guests were also treated to their own kids table of lollipops & etcha sketches, and even a blow up trampoline, making sure EVERYONE had a great time. Soundtracks from their favorite Fantasy movies filled the pavilion as guests ate and enjoyed shelter from the hot sunny day. They used vintage books from Caitlin’s grandparent’s collection for decor and pages from Harry Potter novels served as their table runner underneath green garlands. The two newlyweds ended the night with a choreographed dance filled with flair, and guests joined in to help celebrate the new Mr. & Mrs, dancing the night away under the string lights. Such a magical day!

Amber & Chris’s fall-inspired wedding day took place at one of my all time favorite venues Burlap and Bells. There’s something so romantic about getting married amongst the tall pines, and when you combine the peak time of changing fall colors, and the smell of cool, crisp air. This October wedding was seriously a stunner. I’ve seen my share of pine groves, but this venue is just MAGICAL. The pines tower over you and let in the most beautiful dreamy light. Add in music and a glowing bride walking down the aisle. There’s nothing like it. I still get goosebumps every time I shoot here.

The couple decorated the pavilion with kerosene lanterns (a theme that was part of their campfire engagement session last fall), white pumpkins, green foliage, and pops of rose gold and mauve. Amber and her family helped DIY a lot of the wedding, including ALL the florals (what?!) which turned out so beautiful. I also loved how the wedding party popped some COLOR! With the mismatched mauve bridal party and fur shawls, and the groomsmen in their royal blue suits.

My favorite moment of their day was when Alex and I stole Amber and Chris in the middle of dinner while guests were still in the buffet line. We quick drove up to the top of the hill that overlooked their reception pavilion and the rolling autumn countryside. It took all four of our breaths away. You could hear the party carrying on down below, but it was so quiet and peaceful up there. Amber & Chris kept thanking us for making this happen (and to think we almost didn’t cause of time!). Brides/grooms of mine, allowing just 10-15 minutes for sunset photos can make such a difference. More time away with your partner, more variety in photos. I promise the party is never affected 😉

I don’t know if it’s the venue or we just get lucky with really awesome couples and families and guests. Or if it’s that people are genuinely happier in the woods and dining outdoors and love dancing underneath the stars. But every Burlap and Bells wedding is SUCH a joy. Congrats Mr. & Mrs. Kammer and thank you so much for letting us be a part of your day! Enjoy their preview!
